SAF-T addresses the complex challenges of local tax reporting

SAF-T (Standard Audit File for Tax) is an international standard format that plays an important role in the modern accounting world. SAF-T’s primary purpose is to facilitate the exchange of accounting data between companies and public authorities, which ensures a more streamlined and uniform reporting process.

SAF-T is implemented in many European countries. These countries have recognized the value and effectiveness of SAF-T and have integrated it into their national tax reporting systems. This testifies to the reliability of the format.

SAF-T is the result of close cooperation between various industry organizations and system suppliers. Their shared goal was to create a solution that could address the complex challenges of international tax reporting. The recommendations of the OECD, one of the world’s most recognized economic organizations, were the driving force behind the development of SAF-T.

Technically, SAF-T uses XML text files. XML, or Extensible Markup Language, is a versatile and flexible file format that makes it possible to represent complex data structures in a structured way. This makes it the ideal choice for representing accounting data, which can often be complex and multidimensional.

Requirements to be able to create an XML SAF-T file

Digitization and globalization are in focus right now and it has become essential for companies to have efficient and reliable accounting systems. SAF-T on Axapta and Dynamics AX has become a central part of this transformation, ensuring that companies can comply with international tax reporting standards.

Companies that use Axapta and Dynamics AX are faced with the requirement to be able to generate an XML SAF-T file. This file is not just a simple report; it is a comprehensive collection of accounting data that contains information such as chart of accounts, customers, suppliers, VAT codes, accounting dimensions, goods, inventories, accounting vouchers, sales invoices, purchase invoices and payments.

How to achieve integration of SAF-T on Axapta and Dynamics AX?

The first step is to create correct mappings between the company’s chart of accounts and the standard SAF-T chart of accounts. This ensures that the data is correctly represented and streamlined with the SAF-T specifications. Likewise, mapping of VAT codes against SAF-T standard VAT codes must be done. These mappings differ from country to country.

After mapping, it is simply a matter of running an export from your Axapta or Dynamics AX. An XML file will be created here. This file must then be uploaded to the tax authorities.
